Ice Cream Racing

Something really cool happened at our most recent community outing.

Vision Corsa was in Minneapolis on Aug. 16 for a neighborhood event at Bryant Square Park. Music, ice cream, face painting, sports and, most importantly, RC car racing. It was being put on by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board and there were several staff members there who made sure things went smoothly.

I talked to one of them as we watched kids try out the Vision Corsa cars and track. We talked about the event, the planning, all the normal stuff.

But then he offered a little extra information.

He had his own remote control truck at his house nearby and is an RC enthusiast. I obviously started asking him questions before getting pulled away.

What happens 45 minutes later?

He returns with the 1/10 scale dirt RC truck and starts charging the battery. By the time we were packing up to head home, there was a group of kids chasing it around the baseball diamond at Bryant Square Park.

There are some tough days with a tiny nonprofit - sponsors saying no, not enough digits in the good column on the balance sheet, etc.

There are good days too. Forty more kids went home that night and could tell their parents, guardians, siblings and friends who was faster, who crashed more, and how fast RC trucks are on dirt and grass and concrete.

Let’s keep pushing.

Onward. Together. Always.
